Here are some comments and photos from previous RE courses...

Improving the delivery of AS/A Religious Studies 13th Feb 2008 :

"Thanks ever so much. I really enjoyed the course yesterday. We (the other teachers and myself) are in consensus that it is by far one of the most stimulating and interesting courses we have attended. I have been singing you guys praises all day today and two of my colleagues hope to attend the RE course in the forseeable future."

"I have attended courses run by other organisations - they had bigger groups. This was much better!"
"I have attended courses elsewhere – this was much more relaxed. Smaller groups help"
"Lots of great tips for delivery ideas. Interesting to look at alternative mark schemes"
"Excellent!"
"The other courses I have attended in the past consisted of larger numbers of people. I somehow enjoy the idea of a small informal session which is exactly what happened today!"
"Excellent, clear advice from Jon Mayled"
"I liked the idea I was contacted before the course, for my input"
"Focused"
Some courses have an OSL Training Observer sitting in (another trainer for the organisation). These are the comments of the Observer:

The course started exactly on time. All participants were given manuals containing 200+ pages on RE and Philosophy – including sample scripts. Prior to the course delegates had been asked to identify problem areas of the syllabus. Such was the experience and knowledge of the Trainer (a Chief Examiner for a major examining board) that he was able to give direct answers to all the questions raised.

In addition to interesting and innovative ways of delivering aspects of the syllabus – Junk Modelling, the cake, Dominoes, Mysteries and Footballing Philosophy – we all gained from hearing from someone with so much experience, talk about grade boundaries, pupil answers, textbooks, courses, resources and teaching styles.

The group was small (5 attended) and it is a credit to OSL Training that they ran the course (on the advice of Jon Mayled the Trainer) when other more profit-oriented companies would have cancelled.

The post-course follow-up also looks promising. All delegates went away with a minimum of 7 textbooks on memory stick and the offer of further material, ppt displays and direct feedback from the Trainer.

This is good as it shows that although delegates only attended for one day they actually receive far more than one day’s worth of training!
