MF01 Putting the fun back into learning and teaching: using music in the MFL classroom.

There's a tremendous amount one can do with songs, music videos, dance moves, karaoke, the human ear and the human voice to engage learners and to help them learn the relevant skills, vocabulary, grammar and culture of countries where foreign languages are spoken. Experience has shown that this is enormous fun for the teacher, too.

Knowledge and expertise in this area is just the tonic needed by both experienced and new practitioners in the classroom to reinvigorate MFL lessons.

Trainer David Pope's approach to professional development training is based on the recognition that music in many forms enhances learning and motivation in the classroom, as much on the part of the teacher as on that of the student! Including carefully selected combinations of music and words can significantly improve students' mental faculties, retain or reawaken their interest in the subject, stimulate their response to cultural themes on the scheme of work and make for memorable and enjoyable lessons. At every level, from the early Key Stages to postgraduate examinations, David has seen students raise their standards when learning and revising with music and experienced the power of this combination for himself, from both sides of the desk.

This course is designed to transfer this knowledge and expertise to secondary school teachers, and to enable them to experience it through hands-on practice during the day for subsequent use in their classrooms.

The 2008 dates and venues have yet to be finalised for this course. Please return to our Course Subjects page.
