This course provides all teachers, NQTs and student teachers with some fundamental strategies and techniques to achieve effective classroom management

    9:30 - 10:15 Managing your own behaviour
    • Being a role model for appropriate behaviour
    • The importance of emotions and feelings
    • Consistency through emotional control
    10:15 - 11:30 Prevention is far easier than the cure
    • How to reduce the reasons and opportunities for disruption by meeting students' needs.
    • How to anticipate and divert problems before they escalate.
    11:30 - 11:45 Break
      11:45 - 13:00 The Assertive Teacher
      • Using verbal and non-verbal language to communicate an aura of total control in your classroom.
      • How to manage your own feelings to ensure a positive environment which encourages and fosters right action.
      13:00 - 13:45 Lunch
        13:45 - 14:30 Establishing and maintaining the All-Important Teacher/Pupil Relationship
        • How to drastically improve, maintain and repair positive relationships with the most difficult pupils.
        • Mentoring strategies and listening skills.
        • When pupils respect you, they are more likely to behave for you and more likely to work.

        14:30 - 15:00 Really Effective Praise
        • How to move on from an over-reliance on tangible rewards and help students experience and understand the intrinsic benefits of appropriate actions.
        • Praise is a VERY powerful tool and can engage the worst student... if it's done correctly.
        15:00 - 15:30 Rules and Routines
        • How to develop consistency.
        • Teaching and reinforcing appropriate behaviour through classroom routines
        15:30 - 16:00 Applying Sanctions Without Causing Resentment or Confrontation
        • How to give instructions that pupils will follow without argument
        • How to apply sanctions without damaging the teacher/pupil relationship.
